SAT Testing

SAT Testing, 2016-17 Information

Students can find answers to all their questions at sat.org/register

What is the SAT?
The SAT is a three-hour-and-forty-five-minute test that measures the critical thinking, mathematical reasoning and writing skills that students need to do college-level work.

Who takes the SAT?
Juniors, seniors, (occasionally some sophomores) preparing for college admissions and 7th graders who are participating in the Duke Talent Identification Program.

When is the SAT administered?
The SAT is given on national and international test dates at numerous times between October and June, but the SAT will be administered at SMA 10/01/2016, 12/03/2016 and 05/06/2017.

Where does a student take the SAT?
The test is given on the SMA campus; check the admission ticket for test location information.

How does a student register for the SAT?
Go to www.collegeboard.org. First time registrants will create an account, then follow procedures for test registration. Students or parents can register on their own; however, the SMA Guidance Counselor is available to offer assistance with the registration process. Students will be expected to meet the registration deadlines. You will need the School Code: 446320, and Test Center Code: 44819. Please contact Mrs. Ritchie, the Guidance Counselor, if you experience problems while attempting to register. For additional help, visit sat.org/register.

How much does the SAT cost?
The cost is $45.00 (no essay) or $57.00 (with essay) for the 2016-2017 school year. The SAT subject test fee is $26 plus $13 for each subject test. The November Foreign Language Subject Test with Listening is an additional $24.

What about the score reports?
Score reports are available online approximately three weeks after the test is taken. About five weeks after the test, a score report will be sent to the home address the student indicated on the registration sheet. The score will be sent to SMA to be placed on the back of the student permanent transcript. Scores will be sent from College Board to colleges that the students designated on the registration sheet.

We encourage all juniors to take the SAT at least once during their junior year.
