San Marcos Academy Library
Welcome to the Thomas Library at San Marcos Academy, located on the first floor of Cavness-Reed Hall.
In recent years, our once traditional library has been transformed into a Learning Resource Center (LRC)
where students also engage in blended learning as well as total distance learning in a variety of subjects.
The LRC houses a collection of over 12,000 volumes of printed works as well as a plethora of digital
materials to serve our students’ needs. The LRC not only offers recreational reading material but also
caters to student research.
Our library includes a technology lab that houses 15 desktop computers for individual or class use.
A smaller room for private study is also available in this facility. Additionally, our library is home
to the guidance counseling office and college room. Here, students meet with counselors to prepare for
standardized testing and college admissions as well as to apply for academic scholarships for the next
phase of their lives. Most upperclassmen will be assigned to a seminar class with the counselor at some
point prior to their graduation.
The LRC also serves as a testing site for standardized tests, advanced placement tests, the TSI
test and much more.
The Center is open from 7:45 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. For students who desire a more
structured study environment, complete with content experts available for help, the Center re-opens from
4:15-5:30 and again from 7:30-9:00 Monday through Friday and on some Saturdays from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. An
additional fee is charged for these structured halls.
Mrs. Amy Nighbert is the school librarian as well as the program director for San Marcos Online and is
available during regular school hours for any questions about the LRC or the Academy’s online curriculum.
